Those people who are recovering from COVID-19 contains antibodies. As they were fighting the virus, their bodies produced their defensive shield to get well. And from the blood-plasma, we can retrieve the antibody.

The convalescent plasma comes from recovered patients, and it’s in practice for over 100 years. It is a way of treating various critical illnesses from polio, measles, chickenpox, and even SARS. As the COVID-19 recovered patients’ numbers are increasing, the plasma containing the antibody is given to affected patients through transfusion. These donor antibodies are helping the patients to fight novel coronavirus disease.

Any Anti-Viral Treatment

In current times, there is no anti-viral treatment for the COVID-19 disease. But some drugs were developed to treat all other viral infections are going through tests. If any of those drugs become effective against the coronavirus, that would be a relief to all.

Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid drug. Recent studies show that the drug decreases the death risk of even very critical COVID-19 patients. However, the research results need to go through careful review. Many doctors are treating the extremely ill COVID-19 patients with the corticosteroids since this pandemic started. It made sense when some patients developed a hyper-immune response to the infection. 

These overreactions of the immune system damage the lungs and other organs and often lead to a patient’s death. So, whether the drug should be in use for patients or not, is still a question.

Safety Measures Of Hydroxychloroquine And Azithromycin

An earlier report from China and France said that these two potent medications together are improving COVID-19 symptoms quickly. Some doctors received positive effects using various combinations of drugs for multiple patients. The chloroquine treats malaria and also some other inflammatory diseases. We know that azithromycin is a common antibiotic that doctors prescribed for bacterial pneumonia and strep throat.

In the laboratory, hydroxychloroquine has proved that to kill the virus on a laboratory dish. It makes it harder for the virus to attach itself to any cells, before entering inside it to multiply. Even if the virus manages to get inside, these drugs kills before its multiplication starts.  

Azithromycin was never used for viral infections, but its anti-inflammatory action may be helping to fight the virus. However, it is not sure which drugs are actually helping to prevent the illness. The recovery process has been different for different people.

Vitamins C And D

Some evidence shows that adequate levels of vitamins C and D are helping the patients from developing severe COVID-19 symptoms. When people have low vitamin D, it affects their upper respiratory system acutely. In some treatment centers, patients receive high doses of vitamin C through IV. But whether these vitamins are helping the patients to recover or not, is still questionable.
