Mental Discipline: Why Do You Need It And What To Do

Mental Discipline: Why Do You Need It And What To Do

I got my idea of mental discipline two weeks after significant bone surgery. It is to give up opiates and all other forms of pain killers and sweat it out. Are you already addicted after two weeks? The pain increases at the side of the wound. Moreover, the stomach hurts, and concentration is impossible.

For What Do You Need Mental Discipline?

Do you get the following type of feelings?

  • Blinding headaches interrupts sleep.
  • The bowels are chancy.
  • The sound of a pillow falling on the floor is like the sound of an elevator dropped at high speed from 5o levels up.
  • Piercing voices are intolerable, and the television sounds like ten freight trains moving through the corridors.
  • It’s ice-cold, and I’m shivering, which suddenly turns to a high fever. I’m going to die, and I wish it would hurry up.

What’s the advantage when it would be easier to wait it out since addiction has already taken hold? I got off opiates other times, and each time, it gets harder. Last time it took years to get away from them. If I had waited a couple more weeks to detox, the effects would have been ten times as intense, and I might have been unable to withdraw completely.
Three weeks of suffering from withdrawal symptoms are well worth the price. And I don’t know of anything else that requires as much discipline. Eight months and no pain killers. No alcohol, not even one beer.

Key Role Of Mental Discipline: Help Yourself

Mental Discipline is like building muscle. Just like when you go to the gym, you cannot start by benching 225 lbs. Similarly, you cannot make your mind to have discipline in a single day. Start by setting small goals for yourself. A couple of ways to incorporate behavior modification are as follows:

Make Your Bed Soon

Make your bed soon as you wake up in the morning. This has a myriad of benefits; one is that you likely won’t go back to bed once it’s ready already. Another is that you get in the habit of doing things right away.

Create A Morning Ritual

Get to know about this. Moreover, we know the powerful impact of routine on our lives. Find some time in the morning to do high-leverage activities. The activities include meditation, journaling, and exercise.

Change Your Self-Talk

Our behaviors are congruent with our self-image. As long as you believe you don’t have Disciplined, you will behave accordingly. Once you get in the habit of doing some of the activities, you will start to perceive yourself. Moreover, in turn, this will change your behavior from the inside out, which is the only kind of sustainable change there is.

Mental Discipline is like building muscle. You start with a weight that you’re able to lift with some difficulty. Moreover, day by day, you get stronger and lift heavier and heavier weights. As a bonus tip, you can also try taking cold showers, but I’ve found most people too afraid to try.
