Did you know that all of the roots of medicine are holistic healing? The goal is to heal the whole body which includes all of its elements. This idea is derived from Socrates who recognized the importance of making sure all of the body’s elements are well. He said that one part cannot be well unless everything else is.

Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, further supported Socrates’ line of thinking. He is a prime supporter of self-healing. Lastly, he believes that the body can combat most illnesses if given the chance and if encouraged properly.

After that, every other ancient healing sector took a similar line of thinking. The most ancient healing methods supported natural and holistic healing. These include the Ayurveda, the traditional Chinese medical field, Western herbalism, and traditional European medical treatments.

Modern medicine overpowers holistic healing

Evolution applies to everything. That includes bacteria and viruses. Moreover, these disease-carrying microorganisms have evolved into more sophisticated beings that are more resistant to the body’s healing processes. Holistic healing has to take the back seat as western medicine took over.

Furthermore, it started with the application of penicillin to treat an array of diseases. Drugs became the primary treatment option. Some cases require urgent treatment that resulted in physicians neglecting the person’s general wellbeing. The focus is the affected region and not the whole body. Holistic healing became a second opinion or a last resort.

The rise of drugs to treat every little disease has its own setbacks. Additionally, the most prominent problem is the development of people’s reliance on these drugs. Some developed weaker immune systems as their body sought after artificial treatment methods. Lastly, others developed an addiction. Other effects include the side effects of overdosage like nausea, headaches, dizziness, and organ failures.

The medical community eventually turned around to look for more natural treatment methods. And then, alternative medicine was born. Finally, holistic healing went back to business in the 1970s and has been around ever since.

Furthermore, holistic medicine had to develop into a more contemporary standard in order to keep up with the times. It has developed a close relationship with conventional medicine for maximum effect. Moreover, there are different stratifications in holistic medicine. Lastly, each group varies based on their level of acceptance for contemporary medicine.
